    Annie’s Revelation

    By Karen Weinberg, QDE,
President of CHAI and Hostess of CHAI's Fireside Chat

The crowd was loud and impatient.  Everyone wanted to be served before they had to return to their various jobs.  Lunch hours have always been a challenge.  ‘Annie’ waved to me and I made my way over to where she was sitting.  We enjoyed a wonderful seafood salad and caught up on each other’s lives.  Then, all of a sudden, Annie became very quiet.   “I’ve decided to let you write my story.  Maybe it will help someone.”  This was a very embarrassing time in Annie’s life so I have used another name instead of her own.  Are you the person Annie is trying to warn?

Let’s go back to 1990.  At that time Annie and I worked together in the same location.  She came over to me and said, “When you have a minute I have something I want to show you.”  After finishing with my client, I went to find Annie.  I immediately noticed the 33 1/3 RPM.  (If you know what that is, it probably dates you).  Annie explained that her boyfriend ‘Jake’ had given it to her twenty-five years ago.  There was writing on the front of the album.  “Can you analyze this for me?” she asked.  I looked at it and responded, “Wow!  I am glad Jake isn’t in your life anymore.  He was on drugs, and really didn’t love you.”  She assured me that I was wrong about the drugs, but she did admit that Jake really didn’t love her.  They did break up and go their separate ways.  Annie tried to assure me that it wasn’t because of drugs and that I was really wrong about that.

Three months passed when Annie brought me some love letters.  I looked at them and noticed that the signature was not her husband’s.  “These cards are from Jake”, I observed, “and he is still on drugs.”  She got very defensive.  “I told him what you had said, Karen, and you are NOT right.”  Before I could finish the analysis, she grabbed the cards and stormed out.  I knew I was right.

For the next several months Annie distanced herself from me.  Her marriage broke up and she prepared to marry her one and only true love -- Jake.  The wedding was to be in California.  Although Annie and I agreed to disagree about Jake, she did try once again to get me to change my mind about my analysis; but I wouldn’t.

In May, one month before Annie was to be married, her dream came to an abrupt end.  Jake was killed while riding his motorcycle.  Of course Annie was devastated.  Instead of a wedding, she now had to prepare for a funeral.

Jake’s parents arranged to have her flown out for the funeral.  After the service, Annie stayed with them for several days; comforting each other in their time of sorrow.  It was decided that Annie should accompany them to their son’s apartment.  They assured her that she could pick out anything she wanted and they would arrange to have it shipped back for her.

Annie had never visited Jake’s apartment.  As they drove up to the complex, Annie noticed it was not located in the best area of town.  They found the apartment on the second floor and Jake’s dad put the key in the door and opened it.  What they saw shocked all of them into a stunned silence.  Annie stood in the doorway unable to move.  There was drug paraphernalia everywhere.  My words came resounding back into her ears.  “Jake is on drugs.”  Not only was he using drugs, but he was producing and selling them as well.

Annie is now happily remarried.  I analyzed her husband’s handwriting before she agreed to date him.  After they got to know each other, I did a compatibility analysis for them.  Her husband told me that the analysis was very powerful and helped them better understand each other.

Come and join CHAI.  On one of our fireside chats I will tell you how I knew Jake was on drugs
